THETFORD MINES, OCTOBER 7, 2021. This fall, the Société de développement économique de la région de Thetford (SDE) is undertaking a vast study to determine the status of the various industrial parks in the Appalaches Regional County Municipality. The study will allow for the proper structuring of the deployment of the industrial function in the Thetford region and to offer an optimal response to real estate demands, while reinforcing the overall economic structure of the territory.

In 2015, the SDE region Thetford carried out an exercise to identify the strategic industrial zones in the territory, based on the main modern factors for the establishment and development of businesses. It targeted eight industrial parks for which it supported growth, development and promotion projects. Six years later, many investments have been made, among others with the support of the Canadian Chrysotile Economic Diversification Initiative. As a result, the profile of these eight industrial parks has evolved considerably, to the point where a lack of space is beginning to be felt.

"The SDE wants to prevent a scarcity of available space from hindering the region's ability to seize opportunities by ensuring that a well-organized growth strategy is maintained. This tool should help guide the various authorities in their decision-making," explains Vicky Lachance, Director of Business Services at the SDE.

"The study will include, among other things, a portrait of the major development trends for the industrial parks, a status report on the eight industrial parks identified, a prospective evaluation of the industrial space required for the next ten years, future real estate needs and strategic factors for establishment and expansion. In addition, the typical profile of companies likely to settle in the Appalches Regional County Municipality, the identification of crucial issues in the parks and finally the identification of concrete courses of action will also be addressed", commented the person in charge of the file at the SDE, Mr. Daniel Lapointe.

The SDE has retained the services of Ms. Caroline Gagnon, partner, and vice-president of the firm LGP, to update the portrait of the industrial parks, to draw up a report, and to profile and quantify future demand.
